New EU Tachograph Regulation: Teltonika's Solution for Full Van Fleet Compliance

As of 1 July 2026, a new European regulation came into force, significantly changing the operational requirements for businesses engaged in international road transport with vans. Under the new rules, all light commercial vehicles over 2.5 tonnes performing cross-border transport or cabotage operations must be equipped with a Smart Tachograph Version 2 (G2V2) and comply with EU regulations governing drivers' driving and rest times.

The new legislation requires companies not only to install a smart tachograph but also to regularly download tachograph data, securely store it for at least one year, and make it readily available to authorities during roadside inspections. Failure to comply may result in substantial fines, transport delays, and increased operational costs.

For many logistics and transport companies, the greatest challenge is that their vehicles are constantly on the road, making manual tachograph data collection both time-consuming and inefficient.

Teltonika Telematics addresses this challenge with its new Tachograph Management functionality for the FMx150 device series. The solution enables remote downloading of digital tachograph files, real-time monitoring of tachograph data, and automated compliance management through the TachoSync platform. Fleet managers can schedule automatic downloads, securely store data in the cloud, and receive notifications whenever action is required.

Another significant advantage is that businesses already using FMx150 devices do not need to replace their existing hardware. The new functionality can be activated through a remote firmware upgrade, significantly reducing the cost of adapting to the latest European regulatory requirements.

As regulations concerning digital tachographs, driving and rest times, fleet management, and compliance with European transport legislation continue to become more stringent, investing in a comprehensive telematics solution is no longer optional—it's essential.

Teltonika's latest solution combines reliability, automation, and full regulatory compliance, making it one of the most comprehensive options for businesses seeking to manage their fleets efficiently while avoiding penalties and operational disruptions.
